Kaniva Windmill Stitchers donated quilts to Wimmera Health Care Group as part of their annual charity project.

During 2017 the windmill stitchers made small quilts for the Yandilla ward and recently handed them over to midwife Krystyna Wesolek.

"These quilts will be used for families that have unfortunately had a stillborn baby," Ms Wesolek said.

"The quilts have varied themes with beautiful bright colours."

Ms Wesolek gave the ladies a summary of the work Yandilla do with families who have had a stillbirth, showing the specially designed cuddle cot and the beautiful clothing and blankets made by volunteers, to help families during such a sad time.

"This is the second time that windmill stitchers have delivered small quilts to our ward and we are very grateful for their donation," Ms Wesolek said.

The windmill stitchers will be hosting the Very Snuggly Quilts team from VicQuilters in June.

Jenny Wallis, secretary and treasurer of the Kaniva Windmill Stitchers said the quilts from this project are donated to the Royal Children’s Hospital.

"There is a team of volunteer ladies who collate all of the quilts and match a quilt as closely as possible to an ill child," Ms Wallis said.

"Quilts are donated once a month and the process takes up to a week to organise, with up to 175 quilts donated every visit."

Around 2000 quilts are donated to the Royal Children’s Hospital annually from the group. On Friday 15th of June the VicQuilters are coming to Kaniva.

"We’re putting out the call for anyone able to spend the day or even an hour or two to help put some quilts together," Ms Wallis said.

"There is no need to bring anything as everything is provided."
