Wimmera Health Care Group wants to thank every single person who has donated to the proposed Wimmera Cancer Centre so far and helped us reach $506,452.
Chief Executive Chris Scott said the figure marks the halfway point to the goal of a minimum $1 million which has been raised in just six months.
“We are very proud and very lucky to live in a region so full of generous people,” Mr Scott said.
“The Wimmera Cancer Centre project has received so much support and it is astounding we have reached such a huge figure in such a short period of time. All of the funds raised will be spent locally to support cancer treatment in the Wimmera.
“Donations have come in from community groups, individuals and businesses and every single donation has been greatly appreciated.”
Mr Scott said there was still a long way to reach the target of a minimum $1 million but he was confident it would happen.
“We’ve had so many events organised by people and groups to raise funds for the cause, including a treadmill marathon, the telethon, dances, golf days and raffles to mention a few,” he said.
“We still have more events coming up and people contacting us with ideas regularly. Coller Rathgeber is donating funds from houses sold, there is a piano recital this weekend and Haven Market is holding a market to raise funds for the centre next month.
“Cancer touches everyone and we really feel that everyone across the Wimmera is supporting this project in some way- thank you.”
