Service Description / Overview
The diabetes educator is a health professional who helps people to understand the day to day management of diabetes.
The practice of diabetes education includes clinical care, education, advocacy, health promotion and counselling. Through education and support, people are able to obtain the skills to adequately self-manage their condition thereby improving their quality of life.
Specialty areas include:
- Paediatrics
- Adults type 1 and type 2 diabetes
- Diabetes in pregnancy
- Insulin pump therapy and continuous glucose monitoring
- Visiting specialists from Royal Melbourne and Royal Children’s Hospital
- Local physician led diabetes clinics.

8.30am - 5pm, Mon - Fri.
Appointment required.
No out of hours service at WHCG.
If your child is unwell or has ketones, advice is available through RCH sick day service 03 9345 6180, or in an emergency phone 000.
If Adults are unwell with ketosis and on insulin injections or insulin pump and unable to manage to contact their local GP or diabetes educator, or for emegencies, present to closest hospital emergency department.

Service predominantly delivered through WHCG Horsham campus. Regular diabetes clinics also operate from Dimboola medical centre.
