The Wimmera Health Care Group Foundation has handed over its first instalment for the Wimmera Cancer Centre, a very generous $80,000.
Foundation chairman Dr Don Johns OAM presented health care group chief executive Chris Scott with the cheque, which was $30,000 more than the expected amount, on Tuesday.
Dr Johns said due to good money management the foundation was delighted to hand over the larger amount. The foundation has pledged $250,000 over five years to the new Wimmera Cancer Centre.
“This is the most important project for the community, for the entire Wimmera, because cancer affects everyone and people suffering from cancer will benefit greatly by being treated close to home with friends and family nearby,” Dr Johns said.
“We are determined to help Wimmera Health Care Group meet their fundraising target and look forward to seeing more government assistance to help build this wonderful facility.”
Mr Scott said the organisation was grateful for the tireless efforts of the foundation.
“This large amount will certainly be a huge contribution to the oncology funding process- the foundation works so hard to meet its fundraising targets and continues to support the projects the hospital undertakes,” Mr Scott said.
“Donations such as this, plus community contributions will make this facility a reality.”
Anyone interested in making a contribution to the project can do so by contacting the hospital on 5381 9209 or dropping their donation into the main hospital reception.
All donations are tax deductible.
