Horsham’s very own world renowned artist Evan Mackley has donated a range of art and books for a raffle to raise funds for Rachael’s Wish.

Mr Mackley’s art has sold around the world, can be seen locally at his restaurant Olde Horsham but it is just at home in galleries in Tokyo and New York. The successful artist is passionate about his paintings and passionate about providing the best healthcare to people in the Wimmera.

“I have a long standing relationship with the hospital. Our children were born there and I am getting treatment currently. I think the Wimmera Cancer Centre is a very important project,” Mr Mackley said.

“What is very important to highlight is that it will incorporate dialysis and community-based palliative care. A lot of people are talking about the cancer aspect of the new centre, which is very important, but there will be other services that will be improved as well.

“I am currently using the services three days a week for dialysis so I want to do my part to help make the new centre a reality.”

Mr Mackley has created a raffle which has a first prize valued at $5000 of a large oil on canvas flower scape titled ‘Rachael’s Garden’. Second prize is a smaller boatscape titled ‘A Special Picnic’ and third prize is a series of books written and illustrated by Mr Mackley. Tickets are $50 each and available from Olde Horsham or Hillross Horsham.

Wimmera Health Care Group Board of Management member and Wimmera Cancer Centre Steering Committee chair Richard Goudie said Mr Mackley’s donation was very generous.

“Evan is very well known in the art world, locally and internationally and it is great to have his support,” Mr Goudie said.

“This is a great chance for some locals to get their hands on a beautiful Evan Mackley piece and support the fundraising for the Wimmera Cancer Centre.”
