Record baby numbers

Several Wimmera families have received an early Christmas present thanks to a record baby boom at Wimmera Health Care Group’s Yandilla ward.

Yandilla nurse unit manager Leonie Hoskins said the ward had reached capacity with 10 babies in total and all but one were boys.

“We had eight births in three days between December 10 and 12, including seven boys in a row, then late last night a little girl was born,” Ms Hoskins said.

“We also had a premature set of twins transferred back to us last week for ongoing care so that makes ten in total,” she said.

“Our team has been working very hard to keep up with the record numbers and we had just enough cots to cover.

“We have a lot of very excited families who are thrilled about their timely arrivals.”

Ms Hoskins said normally a busy time for Yandilla was a maximum of five babies at once.
