The Wimmera Hospice Care Auxiliary has grand plans for their ‘Quilt Extravaganza’ but they need help from the Wimmera’s crafty community.

Wimmera Hospice Care Auxiliary president Lea Crammond said the fundraising group will host the Quilt Extravaganza in October 2014 and while it may seem like a long time away, they need to enlist the help of local quilters now.

“Quilts are beautiful craft pieces and works of art and they take time to make,” Mrs Crammond said.

“What we are calling for is for people who are willing to make a quilt to donate to the extravaganza. We aim to have a range of quilts up for auction and silent auction, but to do that we need donations.”

Mrs Crammond said the event is being planned in memory of Horsham woman Lyn Bullock, a keen quilter who passed away 2 years ago after using the hospice service.

“Lyn’s husband Ross has even donated Lyn’s quilting materials so we will be making a quilt out of her materials which will be a lovely tribute,” she said.

“We already have the support of Horsham Patchwork Quilters so we just know this event will be fabulous and have a lot of support.”

If anyone is willing to donate materials or make a quilt, they can contact Kaye Hoffman on 5381 2404 or Marion Kitchen on 5382 3645.

The Wimmera Hospice Care Auxiliary supports Wimmera Hospice Care which is a palliative care service that supports people living with life limiting illnesses and their families and carers. The hospice team supports patients at home, in aged care facilities and while in hospital.

Wimmera Hospice Care serves the local government areas of Yarriambiack, Hindmarsh, West Wimmera and the Rural City of Horsham (37,000 square kilometres).
